The goal of English language and literature Major is to provide appropriate English education for students seeking to be successful in an era of globalization. Since English has become an international language, English Majors go into all areas of business and government, or wherever else the ability of reading and writing of the English language effectively leads to opportunities for career advancement and success. The Major field is divided into linguistics and literature. In order to meet the practical needs of students, the English Major offers listening, speaking, English conversation and reading courses, along with English composition and business English courses. The department also offers academic courses such as introduction of English linguistics, phonetics, syntax and the history of English for English linguistics Majors. English literature courses offered include the history of British literature, British and American poetry, the British and American novel, British and American plays, Shakespeare and British and American literary criticism.
