Established in 1980, the Major of German Language and Literature is divided into German literature and linguistics. The literature part of the Major offers courses on literary theory and history, novel, drama and poetry. The linguistics part of the Major offers courses on the history of the German language, German linguistics, grammar and conversational German. The initial objective of this Major is to provide a broad preparation for students who wish to continue their study in German language and literature at the graduate level. Also, we endeavor to train students to acquire a language proficiency and cultural awareness that are suitable for the age of globalization. Thus, German Majors can work in various fields such as government organizations, foreign branches of banks, companies and news organizations.
